Do Direct and Indirect Recommendations Facilitate Students’ Self-Regulated Learning in Flipped Classroom Online Activities? Findings from Two Studies

Self-regulated learning (SRL) is a prerequisite for successful learning. However, many students report having difficulties in completing individual online tasks outside the classroom flipped contexts. Therefore, additional support should be provided to help them improve their SRL skills. Studies have examined effects of prompts (e.g., questions) facilitate but paid less attention exploring how different types recommendations activities may affect students’ skills, course engagement and performance. We conducted two studies using direct indirect 77 undergraduate faculty education courses. The recommendation approach suggested specific follow-up various tasks, whereas with general hints left identify what they use next step. To evaluate impact each approach, we measured self-reported behaviors, results that were useful improving sustaining motivation SRL, while played major role reminding need self-regulate Both could significantly quality Finally, discuss theoretical practical implications future research.
